Postcards from an unknown woman
ECAV, Sierre
2008
A collection of statements on postcards, performed for individuals or groups of people entering an elevator. One is not certain of when the performance begins/ends, and therefore uncertain of when to exit. At some moments, nothing takes place. We all wait for something to happen...
This intervention took a form that was discreet, inside an elevator with no lighting apart from a single head-torch. On the floor of the elevator were a series of postcards facing down, whose exposed faces all looked the same. Written on the cards underneath were sentences, symbols, or drawings that would be presented as actions to audience members selecting corresponding cards. Each person or group walks away with a different experience from the next, and each with a unique postcard as proof of what they had witnessed.
